Angel City Research Inc. has a team of clinical investigators with expertise and experience to help meet critical study timelines with sophisticated subject identification from a large patient population. Our site team is spearheaded by Principal Investigator, Dr. Felix Sigal. Dr. Sigal acknowledges and endorses the ICH-GCP mandate for clinical investigators to recruit suitable subjects for participation in research efforts. Dr. Sigal has conducted clinical studies for over a decade in diabetes-related indications. His expertise in diabetes has uniquely situated him to have direct access to a large cohort of patients with a variety of diabetic conditions.
According to the 2018 Los Angeles County Health Survey, an estimated 903,000 LA County adults (11.3%) have ever been diagnosed with diabetes. The LA County Department of Public Health also estimates that 1 out of 10 adults have type 2 diabetes in the county, while in California, about 46% of adults are estimated to have prediabetes or undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. These numbers continue to grow and pose a significant chronic health and economic concern.
According to the American Society of Nephrology, there are over three million patients with chronic kidney disease in California and nearly 140,000 patients on dialysis in the Golden State. More than 139,000 kidney patients sought treatment at dialysis clinics around the state last year, a rise of about 46 percent from about 95,000 eight years earlier. UCLA also stated that the major causes of kidney failure in the United States are: 1) High Blood Pressure – 25%; Diabetes Mellitus – 38%; and Glomerulonephritis – 15%
